Widening grant access South Africa will spend R89-billion on state social grants in 2010/11 in the face of increasing unemployment and the impact of last year’s recession. Tabling his Budget speech in Parliament, Cape Town on Wednesday, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said provision had been made for the extension of the child support grant up to the age of 18. State old-age pensions and disability grants will rise by R70 to R1 080 a month, while child support grants will increase by R10 to R250 per month. In co-operation with the Special Investigation Unit, the SASSA has cracked down on fraudulent grant claims among public servants and is currently investigating similar abuses in the public sector. “We recognise that the increase in the child support grant is slightly below the inflation rate but the social benefit and the cost of bringing in two million more children implies that we have to adjust this grant more moderately,” Gordhan said. Nearly 14-million South Africans are benefiting from the country’s social assistance programme, with more than 9-million of these grants going to households with children. 17 February 2010 In the next year, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will focus on widening access to social grants, and improving grants administration and payments in order to minimise fraud. Expenditure on grants is set to increase from 3.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 3.5%. It is estimated that about R300-million will be recovered from dormant accounts this year. 6 November 2012 The National Rural Youth Service Corps is the future of rural development in South Africa, Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti said in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Nkwinti said the programme had taken on board over 11 000 young people from rural areas around the country and had helped over 4 000 of them to get theoretical training at Further Education and Training colleges. “We train them so that they can go back to develop their respective rural communities with the skills that they acquire from us, but some of them are being absorbed in urban areas [which is fine],” he said. Skills development and accelerated service delivery The programme, involving two years of training, was launched in 2011 with an initial 7 900 participants. To date, 4 500 participants have either received or are in the process of completing training in various disciplines, mainly in the construction sector. A further 855 have been trained in records management, and are currently scanning and counting land claim files in all nine of South Africa’s provinces. Eighty participants have been trained in disaster management for placement in municipalities. Nkwinti, who supports the idea of getting rural schools to teach farming skills to high school learners, said the programme was widely viewed as a success, but required additional resources. “Our view is that skills development for young people is critical in rebuilding our country. As government, we’ve done a lot in terms of accelerating water and sanitation provision, adequate roads, housing and electrifying households. “We’ve delivered early childhood development centres, clinics and other basic human rights needs that never existed before in areas such as Muyexe in Limpopo, and now we are moving to other areas in other provinces, where we are also building houses for needy beneficiaries.” Nkwinti said they still had many areas to get around to in terms of delivering services. “The pace is slow, but we are pleading with our people to be patient. We are getting there. The country is quite big and resources are very limited.” Source: SANews.gov.za

Just like OpenDNS, Google Public DNS will allow users to bypass their ISPs Domain Name Servers (DNS). DNS servers are, in many respects, the backbone of the Internet. DNS allows you to type a domain name like www.senate.gov into a browser instead of a machine-readable IP number like http://184.108.40.206/. Google argues that it wants to give consumers an alternative to their ISPs’ DNS services in order to make the Internet “faster, safer and more reliable.” According to Google product manager Prem Ramaswami, the company’s engineers have been working to improve DNS over the last few months. Instead of performing DNS lookups on an ISP’s DNS server, Google will use its data-center and caching infrastructure to resolve these domain names. After SPDY (which augments HTTP), this is Google’s second major project that touches upon the core infrastructure of the Web. Using Google Public DNSGoogle Public DNS uses 220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168 as its IP addresses. Advanced users will surely have no problem making the necessary changes to enable Google Public DNS. The company has also released a set of step-by-step instructions for Windows, Mac and Linux users that can be found here. A First for Google: Phone Support for a Free ProductIn addition, Google is also offering phone support, which, to our knowledge, is unprecedented. Given that a mistake in changing your DNS settings could easily make accessing the Internet impossible, this is probably a good solution in this specific case.PrivacyAccording to Google’s FAQ, the company will only keep temporary logs and erase all the information it collects through the public DNS service within 24 to 45 hours. The company promises not to keep any information that is linked to IP addresses in its permanent logs.As of now, it doesn’t look like Google offers any additional services besides the pure DNS lookup. Unlike OpenDNS, it doesn’t block malware sites or present users with a list of alternative addresses (and ads) if it can’t resolve an address. A potential January departure for Thorgan Hazard has allegedly been ruled out by Borussia Monchengladbach boss Dieter HeckingSince arriving Gladbach in 2014 from Chelsea, Hazard’s consistently good performances in Germany over the years has made him one of the most wanted players in Europe. The 25-year-old winger has recently been linked with moves Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and AS Roma. But BILD understands that Hecking has told the Gladbach director of sport Max Eberl and the board that Hazard will not be allowed to go anywhere in next month’s transfer window. The Belgium international has managed nine goals and six assists in 17 Bundesliga games this season and is contracted at Gladbach until June 2020.Merson believes Arsenal should sign Sancho Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho might be the perfect player to play for the Gunners, according to former England international Paul Merson. However, the report did add that a summer return to Chelsea may be on the table for Hazard as the club have an option to buy him back. The Blues included a clause into his contract at Gladbach when they sold him and will have first refusal on him.Hazard had joined Chelsea back in the summer of 2012, along with his older brother Eden, from French side RC Lens. But Hazard never made an appearance for Chelsea and was immediately sent on loan to Belgian club SV Zulte Waregem for two seasons.Afterwards, he went on another loan spell to Gladbach before the German side decided to make him a permanent member of the squad in 2015.
Tool Announce European Tour As Fans Wait For Album Release The tour will launch June 2019 in Berlin, Germany. The band will tour until July 2 in cities including Vienna, Austria, Amsterdam, Madrid, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal. While an album release date has not been set, frontman Maynard James Kennan took to Twitter last month to update fans it’s a “Long way 2 go but much closer,” teasing a release sometime in 2019 with his hashtags. It is an understatement to say Tool fans are excitedly waiting for this album. It’s been 12 years since the band has dropped an album and their tour announcement is only adding to the growing anticipation. The band performed in San Bernardino, Calif., last year and has performed here and there, only bringing down hope that the tour announcement doesn’t necessarily mean the album will be ready before it. In June, producer and engineer Sylvia Massy took us back to the album that started it all. Massy helped capture Tool’s live energy in their debut, Undertow.”Tool was a fantastic live band, and my biggest challenge was to capture the live energy in a studio setting, so generally during the first recordings I was just letting them do their thing,” Massy told the Recording Academy. “However, on Undertow as we started pre-production in rehearsals, I could see them getting stuck with some songwriting challenges so I stepped in as a tie-breaker.”The album, released in 1993, was the introduction to Tool’s intensely good, hard rock and something not heard at the time.”That is why it endures to this day. And for me it was a milestone in my career. It was when people started knocking on my door, instead of the other way around,” Massy said. “It’s been 25 years since Tool’s Undertow was released, yet I still get messages from Tool fans about it. It made an impact on a lot of people.”Years later, fans can only wait for Tool’s next clue.
