The Greensburg Pirates lost a tough match at home Tuesday against the Franklin County Wildcats 3-1.The Pirates are coming off of a 2-2 tie Saturday morning against Union County and started Tuesday night off right with a goal from senior Brady Niles midway through the first half. Niles, able to play in his first match of the season, set up for a free kick and was able to slip it past Franklin County’s goalie to put the Pirates up 1-0. The Wildcats didn’t let up and were able to score the equalizer before halftime to make it 1-1.Just over 2 minutes into the 2nd half, Franklin County was able to take the lead after slipping through the Pirates defense. Greensburg didn’t let up and was able to keep the ball on the Franklin County half for the majority of the final 20 minutes and got a few quality shots off. Franklin County was able to score one more goal before the final whistle blew, making the final score 3-1 in favor of the Wildcats.Despite the final score, Drew Reiger was a bright spot for the Pirates, accumulating 14 saves, while Joseph Pacilio and Kyle Bumbala’s physical play was able to kick start the Pirate offense.The Greensburg Pirates are back in action this Saturday against Oldenburg.
